Ahhh…oouummmhhh…eghkum…blahhh.

Confused by this phrase…I was too.  My daughter, Katherine Belle (Katie Belle) recently uttered these words to me. It was her first “sentence”, to my knowledge anyway. She was 5 weeks old at the time. I interpreted it as “Wow!! My dad’s awesome”. Ok, so maybe I’m a little biased…or delusional…but when you work in theatre a little delusion, aka- creativity, is the norm.

The truth simply put is that I love my family; I love theatre, music, art, and education. (Being delusional is just an added perk.)

Delusions aside, if you spend any time around me, you will hear me talk, at length, about at least one of these topics.

Along with acting as the Technical Director for Greer Auditorium, and supervising the Wesley Black Fine Arts Building, where Greer is located, I also teach the following courses in technical theatre, graphic design and applied guitar lessons.

Recent sets for CCC productions that I have built:

Macbeth
Hamlet
Something’s Afoot
All the Great Books (Abridged)
Western Civilizations (Abridged)
The Importance of Being Earnest
All in the Timing

I also serve as a board member for the McPherson Community Theatre (MCT), and have acted and helped with set construction for several of their productions, as well as fund raising events for the McPherson Opera House and Humane Society.

These include the following:

My Fair Lady
MCT
Wizard of Oz
MCT
Oliver
MCT
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
MCT
Cats
Opera House/Humane Society
Country Legends (Willie Nelson)
Opera House
Three Dog Night
Opera House
The Nerd
MCT
The Foreigner

I truly do love theatre, and love to share that experience with others. The easiest way to describe my love of theatre could probably be summed up in an exchange between characters in the 1998 movie, Shakespeare in Love.

Philip Henslowe: Mr. Fennyman, allow me to explain about the theatre business. The natural condition is one of insurmountable obstacles on the road to imminent disaster.
Hugh Fennyman: So what do we do?
Philip Henslowe: Nothing. Strangely enough, it all turns out well.
Hugh Fennyman: How?
Philip Henslowe: I don't know. It's a mystery.

I guess deep down I love a challenge, and who doesn’t love a good mystery?
